Don't ya love the cover of Exiled? So beautiful.

Here's the blurb...beware, you'll have to read this book after reading it.

Stubborn, sixteen-year-old Princess Venus of Kelari wants one thing, to become immortal, that is, until someone exiles her to Earth, kills her irrihunter and takes her family.

Now she wants revenge.

First she’s got to get home.  But before she can return to Kelari, the Gods have commanded her to help an arrogant boy named Michael find his soul mate.
Only she doesn't know the first thing about love.
Rather quickly, her inexperience with human emotion is obscured by other matters—alien-controlled psychotic teens that are out to kill her, and a government group that is set on capturing and dissecting her.
Worst of all, Venus will suffer a painful death-by-poisoning, thanks to Earth’s atmosphere, if she remains on the planet longer than one week.
Still, Venus is a Princess and she's got a plan. Surely, with her help, Michael will fall in love with a human.
But time is running out and Michael is falling for the wrong girl—her.

C.K. Bryant, along with her Dark CARMA crew have created quite the stir with their indie published novels. They threw the most awesome party ever, too, and I'm happy to say that I survived! Isn't the cover stunning?

Dark C.A.R.M.A. Tour

This interesting and unique book takes you into the world of the unknown.

Here's the blurb:
When a photo shoot ends in tragedy, Kira discovers her best friend, Lydia, has been keeping a secret. Knowing the truth, and accepting it, will change Kira’s life forever and thrust her into a world of ancient curses, magical objects, and savage enemies. What happens next will challenge everything Kira knows about her world, herself and the shape-shifting warrior she’s falling in love with. No longer the timid mouse her mother accused her of being, but a woman who finds the mental and physical strength to endure and survive. BOUND is a heroic tale of true friendship, infinite sacrifice and untamed love.

Bound is original and action packed. This is not a book for the faint of heart. Hold onto your seat, because you wont know what's coming on the next page. It is both exciting and gut-wrenching. It is easy to fall in love with the characters you are supposed to love and easy to hate those you are supposed to hate. Octavian is a hot bundle of man that I'd love to meet one day. I definitely grew to care for Kira and Octavian I want to travel to this new world and explore it. I can't wait for the sequel to do just that. This book will take you away from the everyday to the unique.

"Crossed" by Ally Condie - A review

Crossed (Matched, #2)

Go enter a fun, easy giveaway  here to win a $10 Amazon gift card and a chance at lots of other prizes!

So, it finally arrives! I was excited to read this book, but not desperate to read it. I like the slow, unwinding that happens in it. It is a nice by the side of the bed read, but I listened to it, just like I listened to Matched. I just might read the next one instead, slowly, to enjoy the great writing Condie places on the pages. She writes beautifully.

I loved the new kick-butt character, India and wish Cassia was more like her. I hope she plays a larger role in the next book and I am even hoping she and Ky end up together...bad, I know. It's not that I don't like Cassia, but she seems to have faded a bit in this book and looks less and less like the perfect match for Ky. Where is the strong girl we saw emerge in Matched?

Several times I felt like things fell together just a bit too easily, like the rain washing the poison off. Boo. I really wanted something different than I got, but I'm not sure what I wanted.

I did like the twist in the end and am starting to see why Ky dislikes the Rising so much.

I will read the next one, but it better not be a Mockingjay.   Just saying.

Clean, beautiful, easy read. Good for anyone that doesn't mind not having a ton of action.

Nano Fun

Writing-the craft

I've jumped in with both feet into Nano this year. It has been a blast. I'm a bit tired today, but I'm going to push through it.

Nano is in November every year and the challenge is to write a novel (or really 1/2 of an adult or YA novel) with a minimum of 50,000 words in one month.

Yep. That's what I've taken on.

I'm just over 11,000 now (It's Thurs. 7:31 AM, the 3rd day of the challenge). I really want to win a contest Nichole  put out there. If I get 15,000 words in 3 days I just might win a free edit. Lucky me. I'm going to get the 15,000 words-that's a given-and I hope she draws my name for the edit.
I'm doing something totally different this year....I'm not working on my YA novel. Curious?
I've got a secret...

Sometime this month, I'll let the cat out of the bag.

Happy Nanoing.

Dave Farland on Audiobooks

Writing- the craft-a post by Dave Farland

Audiobooks
I've been looking into turning my book into an audiobook because so many people have approached me at signings and asked when it will be in audiobook form. (I also listen to my fair share of audio-books) They assure me that they will galdly buy it because they just don't have time to read anymore.

Have you looked into getting an audiobook made? Wow! Those services are expensive and you're not even guaranteed a great reader.  They can run you around 20 grand. Yep! Take that deep breath.

So, when Dave asked for volunteers to host him this month I was so excited to have him address this very issue.

Here's what he had to say..oh, and if you leave him a question today, he will answer you, so be sure to click the box that will send you his response when you ask a question in the comment form.

Breaking into Audio Books by Dave Farland

As an indie author, how do you break into audiobooks?
David Farland/Wolvertin
Ah, that’s an easy one!  Most indie authors are afraid of what it might cost to hire a celebrity actor to read a book.  Really, folks, there are other ways.  A few years ago, I had some readers ask if I would ever be willing to podcast my own novel.  I’d never thought of it.  I’m not an actor.  But I did a little informal survey over the next few weeks, and found that 55% of the people who asked about audiobooks said that they would prefer to hear the author read it in his or her own voice.
Of course they would!  I’d love to hear Tolkien read Lord of the Rings to me.  I’d much rather hear it from him than from the finest actor.  In fact, I’d love to listen to both, one after another.
The point here is that you can do it yourself.  You can either get your own recording equipment or find someone to do it for you.  If you have a local college nearby, find someone who is already working in sound for films.  You can probably hire them to use their own equipment and even mix it for you, taking out your “um’s” and “ah’s.”
Don’t be afraid.  Take an acting class or two if you feel that you must.  As you record, just make sure that you read it the way that you wrote it—with the names spoken the way you want, the stresses put in the sentences the way that you imagined it, and so on.  If you don’t get it right the first time, you can do multiple takes of the same line.  It’s really not that hard, or that scary.
If you really feel that it would be better with a professional actor, just look around.  I have a friend whose voice would be wonderful for broadcast work.  I knew an actor years ago, a fellow in a motorcycle gang, whose “look” would only let him play crazed villains in movies.  He was a big old monster of a fellow, with an enormous beard, and biceps the size of beer kegs.  But he was a sweet guy, and his voice was amazing.  Many times, great voice actors just don’t have the face needed to be popular stars.  So you can often get them to work for you inexpensively or even free, so that they can boost their own resumes as they go seeking other voice-over work.
Your audiobook doesn’t have to be expensive to produce.  You can edit in sound effects if you like.  With my latest book, we had a professional composer create a full soundtrack for it, which is a first for me, but you don’t need all of that.
Once you’ve made your recording, you can post it to the internet from your own website, and even sell it on places like iTunes.  You might even submit it to professional audiobook publishers like Audible.com. (Please see the various vendors for their own rules on how to submit.)

If you haven't read any of Dave's books, now's the time! His new book has arrived! Get it now. Oh, and go like his facebook page.
David Farland’s latest novel, Nightingale, tells the story of a young man who is abandoned at birth, and raised in foster care.  At the age of sixteen he is thrown out of his house, and meets an extraordinary teacher, a woman who recognizes that he is a “Nightingale,” a creature not quite human.  The novel is available in audio format, enhanced novel, e-book, and hardcover.  Check it out, along with the soundtrack, at http://www.nightingalenovel.com/
Do you have any questions for Dave? You have his undivided attention. Just leave your question in the comments and he'll answer you.
I wouldn't dare do my own audiobook, but I sure know a lot of high school drama whizzes and college production majors....how about you? Would you be the voice of your book?

Want more of Dave? Hop over to my friend, C.K. Bryant's site-she's hosting him today too.

The Armor of Light by Karen E. Hoover - A Review (correction from earlier)

What I'm reading now  Armour of Light

Well, that was embarrassing! Somehow a rogue rough draft of this review went out early this morning....yikes. Here's the real one.
The blurb:
Three women. One, the first white mage in 3,000 years will begin her training at The Academy of Magi, though there is none to teach her. Another, guardian of the Saphire Flute, loses everything, yet continues her search for the Wolfchild who will save their world. The third wants the keystones for herself and will stop at nothing to get them--including destroy the girls who find them first.

What a great sequel to The Sapphire Flute: Book 1 of The Wolfchild Saga. You will fall in love with Ember and Kayla all over again. Karen's amazing ability to create fantastic and interesting settings will blow you away. She has a fine grasp on writing stunning description and displaying character development. You'll really love to hate those evil characters and cheer for the good ones in all their crazy battles. You definitely don't want to miss this one-it's a keeper- adventure at its finest.

Find out more about the author

The E-Book is available at Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, and Smashwords.com. And if you're bemoaning the fact that you can't get an autograph with an e-book, there's this awesome new thing called a kindlegraph that will send her a request, and I'll personalize a page for you to upload onto your kindle. You still get your autograph! It's so awesome!

Now, for paper copies, you'll need to go to her personal createspace sales page (her preference), Amazon.com, or her local bookstore, The Purple Cow. They ship. If you choose that option, just click on books and do a search for The Armor of Light. And of course if you want autographed copies, or posters, magnets, bookmarks, etc., go to her blog.
